Robin Soderling Vikings Rafa Nadal

6-4, 6-4 was the final score as Soderling triumphantly shook the Spaniards hands.
There is was, quick and (relatively) easy, Soderling follows up that magical afternoon in Paris with another defeat of the #2 player in the world.

I thought this was going to happen. Streaky, big game hitter indoors, against a struggling player.
Soderling was primed for this round robin victory, however 1 match doesn’t get you out of the woods just yet.

With that victory though, Soderling instantly “belongs” here in London, and Nadal’s confidence should be very questionable. I like Robin in this tournament, more so than I would like a healthy Roddick, who he replaced. He certainly has something to prove, it’s a surface tailored to the big viking, and I suspected that this first match against Nadal was exactly what he needed.

With Murray, Federer, and Djokovic (in progress at time of writing) playing 3-set matches, how did Soderling become the guy pocketing the easiest opening match? It looks good for Soderling, but he’s got a tough grouping.

Djokovic is still the hottest player by far out there, and he is more than a capable indoor foe.

Enjoy the matches!
