Danira Safina has earned her street cred and a bit more today taking out Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-2 to win her first title of the year.

Safina conceded that Kuznetsova wasn’t playing her top tennis, but a title is a title. Part of being a top player is consistent quality play. No one can fault Kuznetsova however who has had a very solid 2 weeks of tennis beating Safina only last week to take Stuttgart.

With this showing, Kuznetsova will advance into the #7 spot in the rankings, while of course, Danira holds #1.
