Del Potro Ravages Andy Murray to Advance in Madrid

Yes, I shouldn’t be blogging right now, but I’m at the computer anyway burning CD’s…

“The Nimble Giant” took out Andy Murray in straight sets to advance to the Semifinals in Madrid today. del Potro played solid tennis to defeat Murray 7-6, 6-3. He will now face Roger Federer in a critical match for Roger.

With the loss, Roger will ultimately concede his #2 ranking. Nadal will play Djokovic on the other side of the draw.

Madrid is living up to the bill and turning out to be a very interesting event.

I’ve been all over the potential for del Potro for a little while now, and he has the potential here to give Federer all kinds of problems out there tomorrow. But Federer is playing to hold his claim to the #2 ranking and so we should expect a battle out there.

With Djokovic and Nadal getting used to each other out there on the clay, their match should be equally entertaining. You get the sense that Novak is so close to figuring out Nadal, but not quite there. It’s hard to bank against Rafa here though, the guy is god on clay. In fact, I’m not sure even god can slide on the dirt quite like Rafa can.

Enjoy the matches tomorrow!
